SEPT 16 x Blitz FREE Youth Chess Tournament

Welcome to our September 16, 2023 Chess Tournament. This tournament is free of charge, and has snacks for all participants. This tournament has a maximum limit of around 30 people. Please RSVP through this website or on this form. Chess tournaments are a great way to play in a competitive setting & challenge yourself. Since this is free, we do not have the funds to make it CFC rated. This is just a fun time for people to play! However, we will have some candy and snacks for all. We will also have certificates available for winners!

We are going to release pairings on the day of the tournament to ensure everything goes as planned. Our program directors for the event are Mahad & Samir. Please contact mahadrzain@checkmatefoundation.ca for any urgent inquiries.

REQUIREMENTS: This is a youth tournament, and we will have two sections. The age range is 9-17. If you or your child is under that age, please leave a note explaining their skill level. We only limit the age to ensure that everyone is able to be successful when playing (younger ages often have gaps in knowledge).

• **Date: Sunday, September 16, 2023
• Time: 1:00 - 3:15 PM
• Sections: Section #1: 9 - 12, Section #2: 13-17
• # of Rounds: We will do 7 rounds of action.
• The tournament will feature two time controls. In the start, we will have 4 rounds of 5 I 0 (5 minutes each player). The last 3 rounds will be 3 I 0 (3 minutes and 0 second increment for each player)
• Scoring System: We will use the Swiss Scoring System.
• Room:  Program Room
• What is the cost? This tournament is FREE!
• Prize: Snacks, candy & certificates. (For all participants)
• 📅 Deadline: Please try to RSVP early, however, we understand that plans can change and ask you to inform us if you can no longer attend.

1:00 - 1:30: Players check in and pairings are being made. Big screen will be used to share pairings + volunteers will help first timers.

1:30 - 1:40: Round 1 (5 I 0)

1:40 - 1:45: Short Break

1:45 - 1:55: Round 2 (5 I 0)

1:55 - 2:00: Short Break

2:00 - 2:10: Round 3 (5 I 0)

2:10 - 2:15: Short Break

2:15 - 2:25: Round 4 (5 I 0)

2:25 - 2:35: Long Break (allows us to change time on clocks)

2:35 - 2:41: Round 5 (3 I 0)

2:41 - 2:45: Short Break

2:45 - 2:51: Round 6 (3 I 0)

2:51 - 2:55: Short Break

2:55 - 3:01: Round 7 (3 I 0)

3:01 - 3:15: Conclusion & prizes for all!
