The event was a huge success! We had around 15 people join us for our first lesson based workshop at Central Library between 12:30 - 4:30 PM. The event featured an intermediate and a beginner section. We appreciate expert Candidate Master (CM) and President of the Alberta Chess Association - Rafael Arruebarrena teaching the intermediate group. His lesson was spectacular, from starting with a brief history to engage everyone then jumping into games from Paul Morphy and other chess legends! While Minh Do, our vice president, provided a lesson on how the moves work and getting started for the younger group. We had an overwhelming amount of intermediates and a few beginners in this first session. We had snacks including chips and candy. As well as drinks such as coca cola and ginger ale. The room we used was the BMO Financial Room in the basement of the Central Library. We thank the Library for allowing us to book this room to teach chess. Below is a picture of the lessons being taught:

After a one hour lesson, we jumped into some fun games with prizes! The participants learned how to use chess clocks and apply what they learned!

We awarded certificates to everyone for attending the event and cleaned up the event. We love the interest from everyone and will be hosting another one in September. If you are interested in attending a workshop, you can email us at info@checkmatefoundation.ca
