“I've been a volunteer with the Checkmate Foundation for seven months, having assisted in running a large number of events at various libraries, community centres, and institutions during that time. Volunteering with the foundation has been a transformational experience for me, the ability to couple my love for chess with my love for bolstering the sense of community we all have in Calgary is something I find infinitely rewarding. I find that chess is an excellent medium to bring people from all ages, backgrounds, and life paths together. [...] Teaching chess has allowed me to apply the lessons I give in my everyday life."
